Book Description

16 cute crocheted baby shoe designs modelled on grown-up shoes

This lovely little book contains 16 beautifully designed and made shoes for both baby boys and girls, modelled on grown-up shoe styles. Each design is accompanied by a lovely, styled photograph of the shoe with the adult equivalent in the background, and step-by-step instructions of how to make the shoe.

There is a crochet basics section at the beginning with step-by-step instructions on commonly used crochet stitches, colour changing techniques, joining techniques and basic crochet charts for sizes 0-3 months, 3-6 months and 6-9 months.

The designs themselves are based on adult shoes such as trainers, ballet shoes, pumps, espadrilles, Mary Janes, cowboy boots and strappy sandals and the patterns are clear and easy to follow. The designs are simple enough for competent beginners, though attractive and interesting enough to inspire more advanced crocheters. They are perfect projects to make with oddments of yarn, very quick to crochet and make great gifts for new babies.

I was very excited to receive this book to review as Crochet is always a craft I have wanted to learn.
My first observation is just how many different designs there are! I thought baby footwear was limited to crochet booties until I came across this book. It was filled with footwear ranging from Timberlands and Converse to Sandals but soft and baby-friendly.
Once the basics have been learnt, this book is ideal as it comes with various diagrams, abbreviations and instructions on how to crochet the entire shoe(s).
Not only does it show the image of the finished product, it explains was size hook that was used along with the wool used. Again as a complete beginner, it was a lot of different things to learn.
The book is very reasonably priced for the amount of content that is available.
I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to crochet for a new/young baby as it definitely puts a modern spin on crochet baby shoes

A brilliant book. Easy to follow instructions and great pictures of what the shoes should look like. I shall enjoy making some of these. If there is a baby coming in your family this is a great to have to make the shoes with.

This book has a wonderful selection of styles of baby shoes to suit both baby boys and girls, from traditional booties to more modern designs. I'm a relative beginner to crochet and found the patterns easy to follow. The photography is clean and modern, really showing off the types of designs you can make. I feel that making these baby shoes has helped to improve my crochet skills, and I look forward to making more designs from the book to gift to friends with babies.

Booklist

Designed with expectant mothers in mind, this book offers 16 patterns for different styles of crocheted baby shoes. It also includes instructions with very easy to understand photo illustrations for the stitches used in these patterns. The shoes are cute and whimsical and, despite some of them being unnecessarily gendered in the text, offer a wide selection to suit a variety of personal styles. The samples in the book are lovingly photographed, and appealing line drawings accent the uncluttered design of the book. The pattern
for the soles used in most of the patterns is charted as well as written, but the shoes themselves are presented in written instructions only. Some patterns are worked in rounds, others in rows, and most require two or three colors of yarn. All are worked using a US B (2.5mm) crochet hook and include three
sizes (0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months). Because the patterns have so many similarities, once the reader has worked one pattern, any of the others will likely be a snap. http://www.booklistonline.com/Baby-Shoes-to-Crochet-Fashionable-Styles-for-Little-Feet-Lucia-Forthhmann/pid=8417523

So much joy comes from anything made in minature! Modelled on classic trainers, sandals and more, the footwear patterns in this book will sure be a crowd pleaser at a baby-shower. So cute they might just make cute ornaments (#justsaying)

This is a beautiful book full of the cutest baby shoes to crochet from little sandals to boots. It's great value - there are 16 different patterns, all gorgeous. The book would be a great gift for mums or grannies to be who can crochet. The little shoes and boots would also make great baby gifts which are a little different.

The book gives you all the basic crochet instructions you need (including how to start, the basic stitches, how to increase, decrease etc) with good illustrations (giving both UK and US stitch names). Most of the patterns start with the same basic sole. You can chose from 3 sizes and the instructions for the soles are given in chart form as well as written form. The instructions for the individual patterns however are in written form.

I attempted two of the patterns - cream boots and little ballet slippers. My granddaughter is almost 5 months so I chose the middle size (3 - 6 months). I had a couple of false starts the first time (my fault for misreading some instructions) but then wrote down only the instructions for the size I wanted and from then it was fairly straight forward. (I've not quite finished a complete pair!). I can crochet but I don't consider myself an expert. I know the different stitches but don't always use a pattern. I think complete beginners would find some of the instructions tricky but would probably manage if there was someone to help if they had a problem. I managed to crochet one lilac shoe in a day. The cream boot took a little longer but there was more of it and I had those false starts.

The yarn used for most of the patterns is Schachenmayr Catania (cotton). This is a 'sport' weight which I think is between 4 ply and double knitting. I couldn't find this locally so I used Sirdar DK Cotton for the boots which, although a lovely yarn, is probably just a little bit heavier. I then decided to order the Catania yarn online (it arrived the next day) and I'm using this for the little lilac ballet slippers. I did find it easier using the Catania yarn. I've added a couple of photographs although the items are not quite finished (ends need sewn in, soft ties added).

There is nothing more special than making something handmade for a baby. Why not make that something special something fashionable and cute as well. This book is jam packed full of super cute designs for babies to wear. The book starts off showing you everything you need to know about the stitches
you will be using in the book. Each of the stitches are explained step-by-step with clear and easy to see pictures. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. There are little cute drawings throughout the book that make you want to smile. With little blue clouds alongside that sometime hold some really useful notes to help you on your way. The shoes are designed to look like real shoes that already exist for adults. It makes the designs even more adorable! There really are shoes for every occasion in this book.
You will be so spoilt for designs that it will be difficult to chose which ones to make first. There are everything from boots to sports shoes. The little hiking boots are brilliant for any little boy or girl that you want to look like their dad. There really is an amazing amount of designs in this book. The patterns are in written format and you are taken through step-by-step through each section of the shoe or boot. There aren't any pictures showing you the process of each design which is a shame but as the patterns are so detailed you hopefully shouldn't have any issues. There are diagrams and instructions for the soles and each of the designs and they come in sizes 0-3 months, 3-6 months & 6-9 months. You will be amazed at the amount of designs.  You are sure to find lots of shoes you will want to make in this book. Whether it's for your baby or as a gift I am sure the baby will look amazing in these designs.

A fantastic book. Excellent use of coloured diagrams to help beginners learn how to crochet. A wide variety of different types of baby shoes are included in the book. The diagram for the size of the shoes is also very helpful. A lovely book would highly recommend.

Nice little book with helpful information at the beginning about the different stitches used and how to do them,I even learnt a few new bits myself after five years of crochet.Cute range of shoes, sandals, boots and sports boots to make, with good detail on how to make them.Love the fact that the book has instructions and diagrams for the soles of the shoes.Very useful to have the stitch abbreviations in UK terms as well as American, all in all a fantastic little book with great illustrations.

Have you seen this book? Too cute for words, but I managed to come up with a few; adorable, imaginative, delightful, lovable, darling and enchanting is that enough for you?.. As you may know, I like to review a book by making something from it. In this way I can test the pattern writing and instructions. I hooked up a tiny boot and am halfway through the other. These are mainly amigurumi style patterns, worked in the rounds, some concentration will be useful!

Things I liked about this book:

  1. Easy to follow charts, (I have just started to use charts) Normal crochet stitch instructions are included too.
  2. Beautiful on trend designs.
  3. Good beginner instructions and illustrations for the stitches used.
  4. Well photographed.
  5. 16 designs, all modeled on grown up shoes..there is even a Timberland style boot too!
  6. 64 pages and excellent value for money at £7.99
