British Patchwork & Quilting
A beginner's book with six modern projects including a cushion, a mug rug, a table runner and three small quilts. The introduction is followed by a simple glossary of quilting terms. Equipment is discussed with a 'nice to have' section.
Fabric choice is covered next followed by a guide to rotary cutting with photographs. Piecing with a quarter-inch seam is shown but there is no mention of the 'scant' quarter inch. Pressing follows. Sarah then covers wadding/batting and talks about the quilt sandwich and how to layer your quilt. There is a basic introduction to the different forms of quilting and simple walking foot quilting is recommended for the projects in the book with diagrams. Binding finishes up this section of the book with simple diagrams for standard double binding.
The project section begins with the simplest project, a Sixteen Patch cushion, and works through introducing different techniques, such as Half Square Triangles, finishing with a sampler quilt.
This book is ideal for the complete beginner but if you have some experience of patchwork, it may be a little simple.
